We are delighted to have Elise Luttik, Founder, Studio Elise Luttik, onboard for IHA25 as the designer of the Hotel Innovation Stage, in partnership with HotelPartner Revenue Management and Re:Guest. Scroll down to find out more about Elise's career and design inspiration for the show.

Please give us an introduction to yourself and your experience in the design industry.

I’m Elise Luttik, a seasoned industrial designer with a background in marketing and product management. In 2014, I transitioned into independent design, blending creative and strategic expertise. As creative director, I focus on designing not only products and furniture but also interior elements and how they fit in a conceptual image that I have in my mind, what I love to do is balance functionality with a poetic touch.

My career took off after debuting at the Salone del Mobile in Milan with my Upside Down furniture collection at Salone Satellite in 2015. Since then, I’ve continued to materialise illusions in interior design.

What do you enjoy most about working with hotels and hospitality businesses?

What I enjoy most is the opportunity to shape an experience rather than just a space. Designing interior elements for hospitality concepts allows me to create environments where guests can immerse themselves, whether it’s through the materials, the atmosphere, or the custom-designed elements. It's about making every detail in the designs count.

Where do you find inspiration for your designs?

I draw inspiration from nature — its beauty, forms, and organic rhythms. At the heart of my creations is the art of materializing illusions, capturing fleeting moments and translating them into enduring designs. These moments can stem from nature itself, an art performance, or anything poetic that sparks the imagination. It’s about capturing the intangible and making it tangible through design. For instance, by employing transparency, iridescence, and the manipulation of light. Each creation invites a second glance – from the plush cushioning of the Chester chair to the ethereal dance of light through the translucent Ballerina lamp. The Prismania collection enchants with its ever-changing prismatic effects, and the Dune wall tiles add movement to spaces.

Are there specific themes you prioritise in your interior elements designs?

I focus heavily on the details that transform a space from ordinary to exceptional. For me, it’s important that every element, from custom-made patterns to curated materials, tells a story. I prioritize elements that evoke a sense of calm and nature while also considering the comfort and luxury that guests seek. Sustainability also plays a major role in my designs, as I strive to create spaces that are both beautiful and environmentally conscious.

How do you integrate sustainability into your designs?

We integrate sustainability into our designs by creating our collections and bespoke interior elements on request and working closely with local partners. This approach minimizes excess stock and ensures that each piece is made to order, reducing waste. We prioritize transparency in sourcing, knowing the origin of the materials and the producers we collaborate with. By designing high-quality products with longevity in mind, we aim to create timeless pieces that can become future classics, ensuring their durability and relevance for generations to come.

Are there any emerging design trends that you find particularly exciting or influential in the industry?

I’m excited by the growing emphasis on sustainability and conscious luxury. The shift towards using materials that are renewable, recycled, or repurposed is gaining momentum. There’s also a strong movement toward blending technology with natural aesthetics in ways that feel organic and seamless. Another trend I’m watching is the rise of wellness spaces in hospitality, where design elements actively contribute to the well-being of guests, which aligns with my focus on creating restorative environments. For example, I use natural materials and design nature-inspired patterns, and use tranquil colours to create interior elements that help guests to relax and revive when being applied in a hospitality project.

Considering the theme 'Redefining Luxury' for the Independent Hotel Show Amsterdam, how would you envision ‘Redefining Luxury’ when it comes to creating a hotel space? Are there specific elements or features that immediately come to mind in aligning with this theme?

I envision using natural materials, creating intimate spaces, and integrating technology in subtle, functional ways that enhance the guest experience without overwhelming it. Luxury today is about providing comfort and beauty in a way that feels meaningful, not just extravagant. For me, the details of the interior are key in the design approach. Instead of relying on pre-existing patterns, I create custom designs specifically tailored to the project. These digital patterns, though crafted with modern technology, are built on artisanal and analog steps, making them unique and lively. The inspiration for these "digital brushstrokes" comes from nature itself, which to me represents the ultimate form of luxury. I wanted to subtly weave this natural essence into the patterns of my interior design, where the attention to detail and the origin of these elements perfectly embody the concept of ‘Redefined Luxury’.

What trends/materials do you think we’ll see in luxury design in 2025/2026?

In the coming years, I believe we’ll continue to see a strong push for sustainability in luxury design. I also anticipate a growing focus on creating multi-sensory experiences in design, integrating tactile, auditory, and visual components. In terms of materials, I see natural stones, clay, and other organic finishes becoming even more prevalent, as well as innovative materials that combine sustainability with high-end finishes.

What are you most looking forward to about designing the Hotel Innovation Stage at IHA25?

I’m excited to showcase my inspiration and designs in a hospitality context. The Hotel Innovation Stage at IHA25 provides a unique platform for me to experiment with new ideas, materials, and concepts alongside my partners, Satelliet Hospitality, Textiles & More, and Newmor. Together, we aim to shape the future of hospitality. I look forward to presenting a design that reflects the beauty of nature, which serves as the foundation for my digital brushstrokes. For me, being surrounded by nature is the ultimate form of luxury, and we’ve subtly woven this essence into the interior elements.
