What is your background?

My background showcases a rich and diverse journey through the architecture and interior design industry, culminating in the establishment of my own design studio. Starting with my academic foundation, my bachelor's degree in interior design from CEPT University in India, provided me with a strong basis in design principles and theory. This was complemented by my master's degree in Architecture from Oxford Brookes University, which further expanded my knowledge and expertise in the field. The combination of these dual qualifications has undoubtedly equipped me with a comprehensive understanding of both architecture and interior design, allowing me to approach projects from multiple perspectives.

My professional experience working for various high-end architectural and interior design studios, as well as my role as a design director for a luxury residential property developer, has further enriched my skill set and honed my expertise. Through my involvement in prestigious projects both in the UK and internationally, I have gained invaluable insights into the intricacies of the industry and developed a keen eye for detail and quality. With this wealth of knowledge and experience under my belt, it's evident that I bring a unique perspective and a high level of proficiency to my role as the founder and director of our design studio. My ability to blend creativity, innovation, and advanced technology with a strong foundation in design theory and practical experience sets my studio apart in the luxury interior design and architecture landscape.

Why did you choose to become a partner of the Independent Hotel Show?

I had known of the Independent Hotel Show for the past few years when I used to visit the show to learn more about the boutique hospitality industry. Last year I was approached by one of our art consultants who were participating at the London show and they wanted to collaborate with us and also to become a partner to help with various design elements at the show. I took this opportunity to gain more understanding about the show and later realised the advantages and knowledge I could gain from this show. As I have worked with a limited capacity for this show in London, I felt that it would be great to take it to the next level and to show our design skills and showcase some of our creativity which would then benefit to the show and the visitors to takeaway some good experiences but also will be useful for us to grow in the luxury hospitality industry.

What do you enjoy about working for hotels/the hospitality industry?

We as a company are relatively new in the hospitality industry but personally I have worked on quite a few high-end hospitality projects in a capacity of senior designer for various high-end design studios. I then shifted more toward the other sectors as I wanted to gain more experience but my love for the hospitality industry had always been there throughout. Initially when I started my own practice in 2017, we used to be mostly luxury residential design practice but slowly we started growing in other sectors too and eventually got some great opportunities to work for prestigious boutique hotels under our own brand. Unlike other industries, the hospitality industry is very unique and specifically with experiential and human senses related things. The industry evolves with the time and similar to our design practice, it also integrates new technologies, design trends and user experiences. Also the hospitality industry is now more focused on sustainability, wellness and biophilic design. These are the same ethos of our company and we always integrate these elements into our design.

Can you tell us about the concept behind the design for the upcoming edition?

When I first thought of this project and the word Dreamland, there were images of grand landscapes, fuzzy feeling, nature, fog and freshness and the feeling of floating and being free. Our approach to incorporating the theme of 'Dreamland' into the design for this year's Independent Hotel Show is both thoughtful and creative. By considering the context of Amsterdam, we have ensured that our design is not only visually appealing but also relevant to the location of the event. Inspiration from the Dutch landscape and its dreamlike qualities, we have utilized colors and elements that evoke a sense of tranquility and imagination. This strategic use of color helps to create an atmosphere that aligns with the theme of 'Dreamland' while also paying homage to the natural beauty of the Netherlands. In addition to capturing the essence of the Dutch landscape, we have incorporated historic artistic expressions into our design. By featuring bespoke wallpaper that reflects Dutch themes, creation of grand arches, we further enrich the visual narrative of our design and add layers of depth and meaning to the overall concept Overall, our design for this year's Independent Hotel Show effectively integrates the theme of 'Dreamland' with the context of Amsterdam, resulting in a cohesive and immersive experience for attendees.

How does the theme Dreamland manifest in the design for IHA?

The vision for the lounge at the Independent Hotel Show is truly captivating, combining architectural elements with carefully chosen colors to evoke a positive and uplifting atmosphere. By selecting the Pantone Color of the Year, "Peach Fuzz," we have imbued the space with a sense of freshness and warmth that resonates with the feeling of early morning sunrise. "Peach Fuzz" is an inspired choice, as it not only represents the softness and warmth of the morning sunlight but also conveys a sense of transition between dreaming and waking. The color palette reflects the delicate balance between serenity and anticipation, creating a space that feels both comforting and invigorating. Incorporating impressionist clouds into the design adds an additional layer of depth and texture, enhancing the dreamlike quality of the space. The bespoke wallpapers, with their peach fuzz tones and subtle contrasts of early morning greens, greys, and blues, evoke the feeling of gazing up at the sky on a tranquil morning, further reinforcing the theme of "Dreamland. Overall, our design for the lounge achieves a harmonious balance between color, texture, and atmosphere, creating an inviting and rejuvenating environment for guests to enjoy. By thoughtfully integrating architectural elements and evocative colors, we have crafted a space that invites visitors to experience the beauty and serenity of a dreamlike morning landscape.

What is your definition of luxury?

Luxury to me seems to revolve around the concepts of exclusivity, quality, attention to detail, personalisation, timelessness, and emotional connection, all of which combine to create truly extraordinary and memorable experiences.

What is your favorite hotel?

This one is a tough one to answer and I don't have any particular one favorite hotel as I enjoy to explore and experience various hotel environments but if I have to choose one, then I can choose one from latest nice experiences and that would be The One Hotel in Mayfair, where I have seen how the old building has been refurbished without demolition with the sensible use of existing structure and the overall interior design and fit-out has been done with the use of natural materials and in a very eco friendly way as well as use of biophilic design throughout the entire hotel and the rooms is very nice and gives freshness to the place.
