Always accessible, always “on.” The need for rest is growing stronger.

Always accessible, always “on.” The need for rest is growing stronger.

We live in a world where we are constantly busy, always expected to be available. Yet deep down, we crave moments of rest—places where we can retreat, reflect, and truly connect. Not only with others, but also with ourselves.

During the Independent Hotel Show in Amsterdam on March 12, the Professional Association of Dutch Interior Architects (BNI) will demonstrate how interior architecture can respond to this need. Not with fleeting trends or Instagrammable snapshots, but with thoughtful designs that add real value—spaces that embrace well-being, stillness, and timelessness.

The IHS, the premier trade show for hoteliers and designers, will take place on March 11 and 12, centered around the theme “Redefining Luxury." On the second day, March 12, the focus will shift to design in the lecture program. BNI will contribute with these leading speakers:

  • Offline Power Breakfast (08:30) – A thought-provoking start with Ilya Kneppelhout (The Offline Club) on the future of phone-free spaces and how we can truly break free from digital noise.
  • Paul Linse (Studio Linse – known for Pillows Hotel and Rijks restaurant) on contemplative interior design: How can hotels and restaurants become havens of rest and reflection? Interiors that leave a deep impression—through a whisper rather than a shout.
  • Sontaya Bluangtook (UN Studio) on the fusion of space, emotion, and experience in architecture.
Maarten Hooijmeijer (INBO) on the “Paris Proof” method, offering strategic insights for future-proof and valuable architecture.
  • Pascal van Dort (Rockfon) on how acoustic design can enhance the guest experience.

“Great design should be an immersive journey—where space, emotion, and experience come together to create a memorable story.” Sontaya Bluangtook (UN Studio)

“Hotel and restaurant interiors should act as sanctuaries—spaces where guests can escape the noise, disconnect from the outside world, and experience true relaxation.” Paul Linse (Studio Linse)

On March 12, we will explore the transformative power of interior architecture in the hospitality sector: how design can foster calm, reflection, and contemplation—values we need now more than ever.
